Fremantle Prison Art Tour, first Saturday of every month
Fremantle Prison Art Tour
Fremantle prison was used as a place of incarceration and punishment for 136 years. Throughout the Prison's long history, some inmates were granted special permission to paint as part of their rehabilitation, however for most of this time convicts and prisoners were prevented from painting or drawing on the walls.
Prior to the Prison's closure in 1991, discipline was relaxed and inmates were given wide ranging permissions to draw on the walls of their cells and exercise yards.
Join one of our experienced guides for this exclusive art tour which showcases a variety of convict and prisoner artwork, including Aboriginal and European Landscapes, Dot Paintings, Graffiti and Tattoo Art, as well as "hidden" art from the convict era.
Upcoming Tour Dates:
- Saturday 07 May
- Saturday 04 June
4.00 pm - on the first Saturday of the month
