Let’s face it, if you’re a dog owner then you’ll already know your pet pooch is as much a part of the family as everyone else.
So, when it comes to heading into the great outdoors – whether it be a vacation or just a great day out by the beach – you’ll want the family to stay together.
Fortunately, these days there are quite a few dog-friendly hotels in Perth, including accommodation in Fremantle. With that in mind, we thought we’d do a round-up of five top places you can take your pooch in Fremantle.
Pier 21 hotel
If you’re thinking of heading on holiday to Fremantle with your dog in tow, then look no further than Pier 21.
With comfy rooms that are well-equipped for your dog, pet-friendly furniture and a handy kitchenette for doggy meal prep, the spacious studio and one or two bedroom apartments at Pier 21 will make sure that your four-legged buddy feels as relaxed and welcomed as you are.
Oh, and did we mention our staff LOVE dogs? They’ll even have a special treat for them waiting when you arrive.
Leighton dog beach

Leighton Beach in North Fremantle surely has to be one of the best-known dog beaches in Perth – and it’s walking distance from Pier 21.
Head there on any given weekend and you’ll find dogs of all shapes and sizes cavorting ecstatically in the waves, chasing balls and frisbees, and generally having the time of their lives.
Just north of the railway footbridge and extending up to South Cottesloe, the white sands and shallow waters are the perfect spot for you and your pooch to have a romp.
And after you’re done, make sure you head over to the iconic Cottesloe Beach Hotel for a laid-back lunch or bevvy with your pup.
What would a trip to Fremantle be with your dog without a walk or three thrown in? You’ll both be spoilt for choice, with an abundance of walking trails in the area.
The fun begins right outside Pier 21, with the North Fremantle River and Beach Walk which meanders right along the foreshore. The trail is even more handy in that it’s circular, so that instead of retracing your footsteps you’ll be able to enjoy new sights (and smells) along the way.
Other walking tracks nearby include the Rocky Bay Heritage Trail or, if you’re looking for a bit of off-lead action, the Gilbert Fraser Reserve next to Pier 21 is an off-leash park with high fencing.
One for the foodies
With its laid-back lifestyle and close proximity to the beach, Fremantle is renowned for its pet-friendly cafes and restaurants.
So if you’re out and about with your pooch and have a hankering to eat, sustenance is never far away. The Norfolk Hotel is a fantastic place to sit back, relax and take in the eclectic vibe of the Fremantle Markets over the road with your best bud. Open for lunch and dinner, it offers live entertainment and has been a part of the ‘Freo’ scene since 1887.
If you’d prefer a table with a view of the stunning Swan River, then the Tradewinds Restaurant & Bar might be more up your alley. The best bit? Their Doggo, Convo, Vino event on the last Sunday of every month.
From 11pm – 1pm, you can get a bev and a meal with your pampered pooch while host Shannon discusses dog behaviour and fun things to do with your beloved pet. You’ll even get a treat bag for your pooch and a Copper Dog Bandana.

South Fremantle dog beach
If you feel like travelling a little further afield, then the South Fremantle dog beach makes for a nice trip away from the hustle and bustle. Smaller and quieter than Leighton Beach (so it’s easier to find a park), it’s a stunning piece of coastline that is hugely popular with locals on the weekends.
Here you’ll find dogs big and small up for a bit of socialising with your pooch (not to mention some dashing about in the waves), while you can chill with the other proud parents and shout yourself to a coffee from the coffee cart, which makes an appearance on the weekends in the park on the north side (next to the Fremantle Sailing Club).
If you’re looking for a luxury pet-friendly hotel in Perth or Fremantle, then stay at Pier 21 with your dog and check out the pet-friendly suburb’s offerings for yourself.
