If you want to escape to somewhere more metropolitan, then we’d love to welcome you and your four-legged friend at our pet-friendly hotel in Fremantle, Perth. If you’ve never been to Fremantle, then you’re in for a treat: it’s a mecca for food, art, live music, and history lovers, and one big playground for surfers and cyclists.
Wherever you choose to go, here’s how to prepare for travelling with your dog and make the most of your trip together.
Check your pet-friendly hotel room amenities and policies beforehand
Before you book, you should check what restrictions a pet-friendly hotel has around your dog’s weight, or the number and type of dogs you can bring. You should also confirm whether they charge a deposit or extra fees to avoid any nasty surprises when checking out.
For your room, you will want to ensure there is a fridge to store your dog’s food, a kitchenette to plate up, wash, and refill their bowls, and pet-friendly furniture. You don’t want to come back from breakfast to find your dog has destroyed everything!
Outside, it’s worth checking if the hotel is fenced all around to eliminate any risk of your dog getting loose and escaping.
At any time that you choose to leave your dog in your room (and if you’ve already checked that it’s okay to do so with the hotel), we recommend hanging up the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign to avoid any staff opening the door and being surprised by your pet!

Bring your pet’s food, bowls, snacks for the road, bedding, leash, and harness
This seems like a no-brainer, but in the mad rush to pack everything the night before (or morning of!) your trip, it’s easy to forget one or two pet accessories.
On the drive to your destination, make sure you have some snacks and toys to keep them occupied. Some tasty chew sticks always go down a treat, and we’d recommend leaving the squeaky toys at home in exchange for something that’ll keep them pacified for a stress-free drive.
Keep an extra bottle of water in the car to top up your dog’s water bowl whenever they get thirsty, and have the leash and harness ready for when you want to stretch your legs at a rest stop.
Whatever pet-friendly hotel you choose, it’s a good idea to still bring along your dog’s own bedding so that they are warm and comfortable wherever they end up sleeping in your room.
Plus, you might want to bring along supplies of puppy pads to protect your room’s floor and make for an easier clean-up when your dog needs to do their business.
Have a plan in place for pet emergencies
Nobody wants to think about the possibility of something happening to their furbaby, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. In case you need to make a surprise trip to the vet, you should bring along a copy of your dog’s health records and any medications required.
Knowing the location and contact details of your nearest vet and other pet supply stores while on holiday will ensure you’re not scrambling to find them at the last minute.
