When you have a dog, they become part of your family. They go with you wherever you travel, take adventures, and relax.
Dog beaches are the perfect place to let your dog get off the lead, run around, and be themselves.
South Fremantle is home to one of the best dog-friendly beaches in Perth. Here’s everything you need to know when visiting South Fremantle Dog Beach so you can make the most of your day there with your furry friend.
About South Fremantle Dog Beach
The 400m strip of bright, soft white sand is WA’s premier dog beach. Flanked on both sides by gently sloping limestone rocks and backed by sand dunes, it’s the ideal place to let your dog run off-leash and have fun.
And it couldn’t be any easier to find. South Fremantle Dog Beach is located on Marine Terrace, immediately south of the Fremantle Groyne.
Along with the sandy beach, there’s a big grassed area with a few shaded gazebos and plenty of trees in the dog exercise area.
Your dog will be well looked after, with spaces to wash them off after getting wet and sandy and water bowls to keep them hydrated after a tiring play.
Given the beauty of the spot, it gets busy during peak times, particularly in the early mornings, afternoons, and weekends.
What to know as a dog owner
Designated dog beaches have been created for a reason: to give your four-legged friends a safe place to run around.
However, there are still some rules to follow:
- Getting to and from the dog beach in South Fremantle, dogs must be on a leash on all other streets and public parks.
- Every dog must have a collar and registration.
- Keep your pet safe and well-managed. If your dog tends to get distracted when called or may feel uneasy around other dogs, it’s a good idea to keep them on a leash.
- Always pick up after your dog. Bring doggy bags to clean up any messes.
What’s nearby
South Fremantle Dog Beach is easy to get to. Parking is available along Marine Terrace and in the Groyne car park.
The parking right behind the beach, next to the railway line, is free, making it the ideal place to drop by before work or in the evening.
Plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby welcome dogs, where you can rest and refuel. A coffee van is in attendance over the weekends, where you can get your morning fix.
A little further back from Marine Terrace, Third Wheel is a great cafe dishing out breakfast, lunch, and coffee.
A bit further down the beach, South Beach Cafe is welcoming for dog owners and their pets alike, providing excellent access right off the coast.
For a lazy afternoon beverage, the Running With Thieves brewpub on Marine Terrace welcomes furry friends with readily available bowls of water (and head scratches).
