Where to stay in Perth for a relaxed summer holiday by the water

Perth is a popular summer holiday destination thanks to its famous attractions like Rottnest Island, Cottesloe Beach, and Elizabeth Quay – but if you want to stay close to the water and far away from all the tourists, we’d recommend booking a room at our waterfront hotel in Fremantle.

Situated right on the banks of the Swan River, Pier 21 offers spacious, fully-equipped apartments for short or long stays. Our hotel is tucked away on a quiet street in North Fremantle, where you’re in easy walking distance to upscale restaurants, key amenities, and public transport to hop on a bus or train and explore.

If you haven’t stayed with us before, here’s just a few reasons why guests keep coming back to Pier 21 in the summer.

Stay cool with accommodation close to the best beaches in Perth

One of Fremantle’s biggest draw cards is its line up of beaches, which are all within a 10-minute drive from our hotel.

Leighton Beach is a great spot for snorkelling or taking your dog for a dip; Port Beach is a favourite for swimmers who prefer cooling off in calm waves; and Bathers Beach is just nearby Freo’s city centre if you feel like a quick frolic in the water before grabbing some lunch or a scoop of gelato.

You won’t want to miss the stunning west coast sunsets over the beach, either! After an evening of watching the sun go down and sipping on a few cold ones, you won’t be far from your room at Pier 21.

Enjoy free paddle board, bike, and fishing rod hire

Perth is known for its brutally hot summers, with the temperatures (and locals) rising earlier in the mornings as a result. Instead of staying in bed and lounging for another hour, you’ll want to get up and out of your room to join in the summer fun!

As a guest at Pier 21, you’ll have free access to paddle board gear, bikes, and fishing rods for a day spent doing what you love most; whether it’s going for a paddle, feeling the wind in your hair, or going fishing with a mate.

Graze on the best cafes, bars, and restaurants in Fremantle

All Perth locals know that Fremantle is synonymous with good food, and we aren’t exaggerating when we say there’s something for everyone’s taste.

After you’ve sampled the street-food stalls and sweet treats at the Fremantle Markets, you can order a loaded parcel of fish and chips at the various seafood restaurants along the city harbour; try a craft beer and wood-fired pizza at Gage Roads or have a feast at the Tradewinds Hotel; or sit down for a posh dinner at award-winning restaurants.

You’ll also find specialty wine bars, gin bars, rum bars, and other quirky drinking establishments that’ll keep you crawling for hours with friends.

In the morning when you need a good pick-me-up breakfast, you can simply walk down to Pier 21’s Breakfast Lounge or venture out again to a local cafe.

Book your room now before we’re sold out for summer!

Guests at Pier 21 love the extra privacy, space, and perks of our Fremantle hotel, but you’ll need to book quick if you want to secure accommodation this summer.
